Following Behavior: An Emotional Journey

Dear Parents, the preschool years are an important turning point when children’s emotional and behavioral development takes shape rapidly.

During this period, children may sometimes experience emotional outbursts, behavioral challenges or sudden reactions. Often, beneath the behavior is a child who wants to be seen, understood and supported in learning to regulate emotions.

What does behavior tell us?

Every behavior can reflect a need, an emotion or an experience. Rather than labeling the behavior first, it is helpful to understand what the child is feeling, what they need and which situations are difficult for them.

Small reminders for families

  • Stay calm and try to observe what may be behind the behavior.
  • Model language that helps your child name emotions.
  • Express boundaries clearly and compassionately.
  • Create consistent routines.

Understanding behavior is not only about solving a problem; it is also about supporting emotional development. Cooperation between school and family is especially important in this process.
